Do you know what an image consultant is? If not, then it’s time you learn what they are and how they’ll be able to help you in all areas of your life. Whether you’re aiming to create an impact in front of people, want to present yourself better, looking to create your own personal style or would just like to feel good about yourself, then the services that image consultants provide are just what you need.

The benefits of image consultants go just beyond personal improvement as well. Corporations and large scale businesses have been known to use them in order to establish their very own distinct looks and identities. They are well trained in terms of identifying problems and provide you with various available solutions.

Image consultants will be able to teach you how to understand your body more. Color, height, proportionality – Everything that you will need to learn in order to achieve the look that you’re aiming for will be taught by the consultant. How will this be able to help you? Well, in essence, understanding your physical features deeper will help you pick out particular styles and combinations that will set you apart from everyone else.

Weddings, special occasions, public speeches; these are just a few of the occasions that you will need to present yourself properly. And it is exactly the reason why you need image consultants by your side. You’d have to remember that during these occasions a simple mistake in the way that you look – clashing of styles, mismatch of colors in dress, and unbalanced makeup can create the wrong impression that everyone will remember for a long time.

A good image consultant will be completely honest in the way that you are presenting yourself, which is exactly what you need. It’s hard to get an honest opinion from other people because they are not familiar with what looks good. Most people will simply tell you that you look okay just to be nice even when your outfit doesn’t match.

You might think that image consultants are just for women wanting to look good, and you’d be wrong. Now, more men are starting to get the services of image consultants in order to create their very own positive impressions in the workplace or in social settings.

The right image consultant will be able to help you boost your image as well as self confidence. Another advantage when getting the services would be the lasting value of knowing your very own fitting style as well as color combination’s. While you might end up using the services again in the future in order to create more of a distinct look or for a special occasion, it’s will not be as extensive. This is because you’ve already learned the basics and all you’d need is a little fine tuning with the help of the consultant.

You can contact us on Tel 02 9542-3042 or 0409 914 583

For a man enlisting the services of an image consultant means that he is ready to take the journey of self discovery. The way he looks and thinks about himself and the way he dresses will be forever altered by this journey he undertakes. With the assistance of an expertly trained professional his future shopping experiences will become easier and dressing for any occasion will be more successful. At first many men are astonished by what they don’t know and how much they have to be taught since good grooming goes way further than selecting the correct tie and buying a suit.

These are the things that a fashion image consultation can help men with:

An Understanding of Body Shape. This permits a man to create an understanding of his silhouette, vertical proportions and positive or negative features. With this information he will learn what styles and garments will enhance and flatter him.

Principles of Colour Line and Design. This is the part that unravels many when it comes to the skills of good dressing. When shopping for clothes few people are well trained in this area and therefore make poor choices when selecting their clothes. If they have an instinctive concept that what they have purchased is not pleasing, they infrequently do not know why and so time after time makes the errors.

Selecting the Correct Garments. Using the information obtained in the body shape analysis, he should be given an all-inclusive list of clothing styles that will assist him look his best for any function.

Knowledge on Accessories. This is a priceless ingredient of the consultation since accessorising correctly is very imperative to a man’s visual image. It is this feature of a man’s wardrobe that allows a man articulate his individualism and personality style.

Wardrobe Organisation. This is where a man is trained in the skill of assembling any unrelated garments together to generate an appealing outfit. It is a necessary talent for reducing repetition and maximising cost efficiency.

Personality Style. Every man has one, and it comes from his life’s experiences, vocation, education, life style, interests and physical attributes.

When it come to enlisting the services of an image consultant men believe that it is a display of vanity. And for a few this could be the case. Knowing how to maintain perspective and balance is essential and you need to remember that clothes and personal grooming is only one facet of a man’s life. On the other hand, there is a lot to be taught and much to be gained by investing in the services of a fashion image consultant. After all, when a man knows that he looks first-class it increases his self esteem and confidence. He will attract positive attention and positive people. He will noticeably raise his visual reliability and generate opportunities in all areas of his life.

Saving time and money with the help of a personal stylist is not wishful thinking. Are you overwhelmed every time you walk into a shopping centre looking for clothes? Are the endless options so mind boggling that you choose coffee and cake and then head home empty handed? Was shopping always so difficult?

Well, only you can answer the first two questions but as for the last, the answer is no! Shopping has evolved into a very different experience to what it was midway through last century. Where once we shopped in a couple of favourite boutiques or ‘ladies’ stores’ in the centre of our suburban shopping strip, today we shop in huge, multi-levelled edifices crammed with stores stocked with low cost, imported product. Service consists of taking your money at the check-out after you have rummaged through endless rows of clothes dangling from coat hangers or worse still, lying discarded on the floor by the previous faceless shopper. To make the entire experience even more unsettling, every second night our favourite current affairs program is featuring some gorgeous young thing prattling on about what’s current, what must be worn by everyone this season and how easy it is to create this season’s “look”. Their words and accompanying images swim around in our brain as we trudge the tiled floor of our nearest shopping centre. When it all becomes too much and our cries for help go unheeded, we admit defeat and retreat to the car park.

Once upon a time there would have been someone there to help you – the shop assistant. She was trained, conscientious, experienced and there to assist (hence her title). She had a manageable array of product to present to her customers and she had a wonderful ability to know what suited the body shape in front of her. Alas, those days are long gone and that breed of shop assistant is almost extinct. In her place, we have seen the emergence of the personal stylist whose rise to prominence is in direct correlation with the decline in the quality of in store assistants. Where once department stores and boutiques provided service, these days we are on our own. Now if we want help we need to provide it ourselves. I suppose we could call it ‘out sourcing’.

For a long while women have been lost in the middle of this transition. Gradually, we are coming to understand what is going on in our shopping centres and mega malls and gradually we are realising we have to find a new way to do things. A personal stylist is not a luxury indulgence for the privileged few, but a sensible investment in one’s self. In previous generations women could rely on those trained and experienced in the fundamentals of line, design and colour principles to be there in the stores. It is different for women today. We need to find another way to access that expertise. Fortunately a personal stylist is only a Google search away.

In the business world your corporate image conveys a messages about your values, capabilities and intelligence. Most people who work in a corporate environment would acknowledge this, but understanding how to create a visual image that does justice to one’s abilities is not always so easy.

There is an accepted code that governs the way people dress in business but slavish adherence to this frequently results in a corporate image of minimalist mundanity. One only has to walk down a street in the CBD at lunchtime to be confronted by a sea of black and charcoal and dull, conformist styling. There appears a definite sameness and lack of individuality amongst those striding purposefully along the footpaths. In an attempt to be taken seriously in the workplace many people create for themselves a visual image that is bland and uninteresting.

Rather than dutifully following the code of corporate dress, one would do well to first consider the motives and reasons behind those principles. They are usually sensible, the problem is in their interpretation and ‘one size fits all’ mentality. Just as no two people are identical, no two businesses are either. Before uncritically adopting what is perceived to be appropriate corporate attire one should consider two fundamental questions:

How does the company I represent want to be perceived?

How do I want to be perceived within that company?

The answer to question one will be very different for someone working in an advertising agency to someone working in a law firm. Similarly, the answer to question two will be different for a partner in that same law firm and the receptionist in the foyer. Taking the time to consider these two questions and then purposefully constructing a corporate image based on those answers is definitely worthwhile.

Why bother to think about all of this? In business, your appearance is the first statement you make about yourself and a picture speaks a thousand words. You may sound convincing, authoritative, intelligent and capable but if you don’t dress in a way to reinforce this then you are instantly disadvantaging yourself and quite possibly, the business you represent.

One of the essential principles of appropriate corporate dress is that it should never cause distraction. When someone’s visual image is not in sync with the words they use and the position they hold, it is hugely distracting. It may not even be on a conscious level but the client will be attempting to reconcile what they are hearing with what they are seeing; in itself a distraction.

The discussion here is actually about personal branding, the latest buzz phrase in the business world. If we can go beyond the somewhat contrived semantics and consider the meaning of this expression, it is clear that personal brand equals personality, purpose and ethics. We need these to be accurately reflected by our appearance because we need people to interpret us correctly. This is true in all areas of life but particularly true in business. There is never a second chance to make a first impression. If this is not positive then business opportunities may be lost. How you dress is a significant element in the creation of you and your company’s personal brand.

Investment in a Personal Stylist can be worth very cent for many reasons. Perhaps the one feature that stands out the most is that they guide women in particular, to set out on a path, via clothes, to self confidence. If you are a woman who is tall and trim with long legs and still has a defined waist and looks great even in a sack, then we still love you but consider you a mutant of the species. The rest of us are normal and are faced with the challenges of how to look great with the body shape that we have.

This is where a Personal Stylist comes in with their keen eye for pointing out and highlighting your great attributes and minimizing the not so great ones. Many women are simply unable to see their great “bits” because they are so confused by their own bodies. Many of us give in to the impossibility of looking fabulous because we may hate our big bottom, boobs or tummy. So a Personal Stylist will show you how to create a fabulous looking you and how to dress the body shape you have.

A Personal Stylist will first gather information all about you that is necessary to then make recommendations on how to dress. To understand what is right for you such information is taken into consideration:-

Your lifestyle

Women today find themselves in many different roles: mother, wife, employer, employee, socialite etc. These roles combine to form an overall lifestyle. By analyzing your lifestyle you can identify your needs and prioritise your clothing purchases.

Look at these areas to ascertain your wardrobe needs:

Work

Sporting activities

Home/ Relaxing

Shopping/Socialising

Entertaining

Personality Style

Just as we have our own personality, so we have our own style of dressing. Our personality and the way we like to dress are usually intertwined. Your clothing may or may not be reflecting the real you.

There are six main style personalities:

Classic

Feminine

Natural

Dramatic

Creative

Alluring

Your Colouring A personal colour analysis is a valuable tool in ascertaining which colours most enhance your natural colouring. Wearing colours that most suit you will have you being seen as younger, vibrant and healthier looking. Colour Analysis has evolved since the 1980’s so today you will fit into one of twelve colour profiles. However the four main ones are:

1. Winter (cool)

2. Summer (cool)

3. Autumn (warm)

4. Spring (warm)

Your Vertical and Horizontal Proportions

Understanding your body type allows you to understand what type of styles of clothes and accessories will balance your proportion to create the illusion of a more perfect silhouette.

There are six recognized horizontal figure types:

The Hourglass

The Inverted Triangle

The Triangle

The Rectangle

The Diamond

The Round

Once these areas are worked out by your Personal Stylist your search for the right garments and accessories will suddenly become much quicker, easier and even enjoyable. Good style comes from a confident and positive attitude. In the words of Coco Chanel “If a woman is poorly dressed you notice the clothes. If she is impeccably dressed you notice the woman.”

Whist we can wear most colours, Colour Consultants will tell you that it is the specific hue, clarity and undertone that cause some colours to make your skin glow with and your eyes sparkle with life. The wrong colours will dull your complexion and emphasize skin imperfections and make you look older. Some of us think we look old enough without colour adding on some years.

Great colours are those that:

Enhance your natural colour

Enhance your body’s shape, size and proportions.

Are appropriate for the occasion and season.

Colour consultants clarify how a colour analysis can help co-ordinate your wardrobe. Planning your wardrobe around your best core colours gives you maximum wardrobe flexibility. Core colours include black, white, grey, beige, navy, mahogany, red brown, camel and brown. These colours are very versatile and can be used anywhere, anytime. For versatility and interest add a range of basic colours. These colours add life and interest to your core colours. They are best used next to your face. Basic colours include reds, blues, yellows and greens in medium to dark shades.

Professional Colour Consultants will determine your best colours and provide you with a colour swatch to take shopping. This will help you to purchase clothes in the right colours, intensity and contrast so that shopping becomes a breeze.

When you go to your wardrobe, do you see a closet full of clothes that have been carefully collected to harmoniously mix and match with each other, or doing you see clothing chaos? Creating wardrobe clusters is a great way to make your life much easier when it comes to recognizing what you need to purchase to achieve an interesting and effective wardrobe.

A wardrobe cluster is a small group of items that are in one or two colours that can be worn together. Nine pieces of well co-ordinated garments will give you twenty outfits. Add three more pieces and you can make up to forty more combinations. Colour Consultants will guide you towards your right colours, patterns, contrast levels and textures for theses clusters in your wardrobe. So in actual fact where it may seem you have fewer garments in your wardrobe now, these garments will create so many more options for you when you know how to combine them.

Most women do not give a lot of thought to their clothing purchases and as a result end up with a hotch potch wardrobe of clothes where few things work. For a wardrobe to really work it takes time and careful consideration of your needs in terms of your lifestyle, personality, budget and the image you wish to portray. Once these areas are worked out and you have learned how to dress for your body shape, colouring, personality and lifestyle your search for the right garments and accessories will suddenly become much quicker. Looking great will become easier and shopping will become a breeze and fun.

Personal stylists are as vital to a man as the services of an experienced resume writer . Why is this so!

When a man is seeking a new job or a promotion he well might seek the professional advice and services of an experienced resume writer. He would appreciate the skills and knowledge this person would bring to bear on his quest for advancement. After all, a resume says so much about a person’s work experience, qualifications and aspirations. A prospective employer makes important judgements based on a resume. The job seeker would acknowledge this fact and that a professionally presented resume makes a positive impression.

However, would the same job seeker recognise the importance of his own personal presentation and accept that an employer makes equally important judgements based on this? The saying, ‘you can’t judge a book by its cover’ may be true, but when there are thousands of books vying for readers, it helps if your book attracts positive attention. And I’m not sure that this analogy is completely true for people. We tell the world a lot about ourselves in the way we visually present. People may not always interpret us correctly but the point is that people use our appearance to form opinions about us.

Many men would acknowledge that appearance matters. Many others would challenge this premise with arguments that the quality of someone’s work is what really matters. However, few men would truly understand the subtleties of subliminal messages and visual short cuts. The job interviewer does not have the time to get to know the candidates sitting before him. Consciously or otherwise he or she will use visual shortcuts to form opinions about a candidate. Often they will rely on their intuition to decide whether they trust and like the person in front of them. The way a man dresses, stands and speaks tells the world a great deal about who he is, what he does, how he feels about himself, where he comes from and where he is headed.

Consider two professional men looking for a job, one in a conservative law firm the other in an innovative advertising agency. Both men will wear a suit and tie for their interviews. Both men need to be judged as qualified, capable and professional. But one needs to convince his prospective employer that he is learned, conservative and careful, the other needs to be perceived as creative, dynamic and a risk taker. Both need their visual appearance to support them. How do they do this? Engaging the services of a personal stylist would be a great option.

Stylists understand the subtle nuances created by the colour of a tie, the cut of a suit and the nature of accessories such as watches, briefcases and cuff links. A personal stylist can assess a man’s current image and give him an honest appraisal of the tangible and subliminal messages he is sending about himself. Then the stylist and the client can decide if those messages are conveying accurate and positive information. If not, the stylist will lead the client on a journey of self discovery to create a visual image that will truly reflect his personality, abilities and potential. The stylist will help the client present in a way that best suits the position to which he aspires.

No visual image will ever replace professional skills, work ethics and qualifications however an appropriate visual image will afford a man opportunities that a poorly presented person rarely receives.

Psychologists say that a messy house trashed with useless clutter is an abstract representation of many lives. According to Feng Shui clutter is stuck energy and the inability to move forward. This all sounds rather deep, however what resonates with many of us is the fact that when one makes the decision to de-clutter they can experience overwhelming feelings of panic. Often it’s the case of where to start and then how do you decide what’s trash or treasure? There are experts to help and guide you through the de- cluttering process. One such expert is an Image Consultant. They can’t help much with organizing your kitchen or office but they can be invaluable in your wardrobe.

Image Consultants would agree that de- cluttering your wardrobe makes so much sense. To clean out your existing wardrobe and eliminate all things that are of no use to you may sound a little distressing but it is an important step in the process of reorganization. In every woman’s wardrobe there are clothes with invisible guilty tags attached to them. They lie in wait for you to remind you of how much money you paid for them and how few times they have been worn. Keeping these clothes will actually cost you money and take up valuable space in your wardrobe.

You have decided to change your buying habits and bad clothing purchases will become a thing of the past. So it’s time to forgive yourself and give them away. Take a close look at the items in your wardrobe and put each item into the following categories:-

Items to keep

Those that require no alterations to fit

Those that are in harmony with your personality

Those that are comfortable to wear to wear and fit well

Those that flatter your figure and make you feel good

Those that are in good condition and repair

Items that need attention

Those with missing buttons and fallen hems etc

Those that are soiled

Those that require alteration

Those that require another item to be purchased before it can be worn

Items that need to be given away or discarded

Any item that is now too small or too large

Any item that is out of date

Any item unworn for three years

Any item that no longer fits your lifestyle needs

Any item that is an unflattering style

Items in colours that are unflattering on you

Anything you hate when you put it on

Now stand back and take a deep breath. How liberating does it feel to be rid of that dead weight and look at that new space in your wardrobe! Now before you rush out to buy more clothes make an inventory of what is left. Determine what you need to buy in order to expand your wardrobe options. An Image Consultant will then also help you to shop wisely explore all the possible combinations you can make with existing garments and any new purchases.

Looking young is a positive attribute in a world which is youth obsessed. However, ‘young’ is a relative adjective. When you’re 18, someone who is 25 is old; when you’re 50, someone 25 is a child; and to an 80 year old, young is anybody not drawing a pension. Generally speaking however, being truly ‘young’ is a fleeting experience. Our real youth passes very quickly. In regards to our physical appearance, it’s the time when our skin is firm, our eyes and hair shine bright with natural colour and radiance, our posture is strong and straight and our face is unmarked by the lines and creases that will come with laughter, anxiety and tears. In terms of stereotypical thinking, youth is synonymous with energy, aspiration, ideas, spontaneity and the future. Age is associated with wisdom, experience, scepticism, entrenched practices and the past. Is it any wonder that many if not most of us aren’t keen on being perceived as ‘old’?

If you want to look youthful i.e. vital, positive, engaged and living in the present, an Image Consultant is a very useful person to have around. Why? Well, for a number of reasons.

They are trained in Colour Analysis, a simple but enlightening process that determines the colours, contrast levels and textures that flatter you best. The right colours will ease the appearance of lines and wrinkles, even your skin tone and bring out the colour of your eyes and the highlights in your hair. These colours will imbue you with a healthy and youthful appearance.

They are experts in line and design. They understand the power of vertical, horizontal and circular influence. They assess your figure’s natural proportions and know how to create a more balanced silhouette for you. They will enable you to walk taller and slimmer.

An Image Consultant understands the power of stereotypes to create negative or positive impressions. Peter Pan collars, cardigans and pearls may look sweet on a 20 year old but when someone over 40 wears them, they ‘scream’ establishment’, maturity and common sense. Not necessarily bad things but together they create an impression of ‘age’. An image consultant can show you how to avoid the stereotypes that will unconsciously age you prematurely in the minds of others.

Being current in our dress is an important element in creating a youthful appearance. This does not mean ‘mutton dressed up as lamb’; nothing advertises your age more. However, embracing the current trends (as opposed to fads) is a great way to look youthful. Your Image Consultant can guide you towards discerning the trends that work positively for your appearance while eliminating those that do not.

An Image Consultant will help you look younger and feel fabulous. They will be an investment in your appearance, your self esteem, your present and your future.

There are many ways to look younger. From anti-wrinkle creams to cosmetic surgery, and all of them offer some hope in the quest to defy our aging appearance. Another consideration and a much less expensive option is finding out how Colour Consultants can make a difference to your appearance and how they can make you look younger.

Colour Consultants won’t deny that lots of things help give you a more youthful appearance. Skin care treatments, anti-aging creams, Botox, cosmetic surgery, a healthy diet, exercise, drinking lots of water and sleep all affect the way we look.

But most important of all is knowing and understanding what colours will make you look fabulous and what colours will make you look tired and sick. All sounds a bit mysterious? Well it isn’t really.

The impact of colour should never be underestimated. Colour consultants are able to inspire others to enjoy the benefits of perceptive colour selection. We admire and appreciate the existence of our colourful world. We take pleasure from watching the colours of a setting sun. We are fascinated by the beauty of a rainbow or a field of spring flowers.

Many of us even have a basic understanding that colour is not only seen but felt. The whole experience of colour is influenced not only by light energy that enters the eye from our surroundings, but also by subjective factors from within the brain. So is it any wonder we can even have positive or negative reactions to colour. For example the colour red can evoke feelings of excitement or threat. Yellow can be associated with cheerfulness or apathy and purple can relate to Royalty or depression. These are just to name a few as there can be almost as many reactions and responses as there are actual hues.

So why does colour have such a profound effect on our appearance? Colour is reflective , and when worn near the face reflects up onto the skin, hair and eyes. When a colour is worn that is in harmony with a personal natural colouring, that person will appear healthier, brighter, more youthful and alive. The human eye responds positively to harmony and balance. It is aesthetically pleasing when colours relate to each other in some orderly logical way. In fact wearing the wrong colours can give the wearer the appearance of being older, unwell, and tired. So don’t reach for the expensive face creams or sign up for the Botox just yet. Simply find out what colours look great on you.

Colour Consultants can make us look younger because they have an understanding of certain areas of our colouring that are important and should be considered in combination. That is skin, natural hair colour and eye colour and intensity. We all have the elements that make up our colouring in varying amounts, i.e. hemoglobin, carotene and melanin.

Because the human eye responds positively to harmony and balance and it is aesthetically pleasing when colours relate to each other, it is logical then that the information from Colour consultants would be of huge benefit in the quest to look younger.
